Only divine intervention can guarantee successful poll – Cleric

Anglican Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Joseph Akinfenwa, has said that only divine intervention could guarantee the 2015 general elections success in the country.

Akinfenwa stated this at a press conference on a week-long conference of the Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) that kicked off in Ibadan, yesterday.
He declared that with the prevailing situation in the country, it was glaring that there was the need for fervent prayers for the nation’s growing democracy.

He said: “We trust in God and we have been praying ceaselessly for His divine intervention. We also believe that He will endow our leaders with the wisdom to take the right decision that will benefit all our nationals in the matter. The Church of Nigeria is on the side of righteousness.”
Speaking further, Akinfenwa noted that with divine intervention through prayers, “the forthcoming 2015 general elections would be a success story.”

The Anglican bishop also maintained that Nigerians should not entertain any fears on a prediction that the country would break up in 2015, saying that “God is able to overrule that prediction.”
On the week-long conference of the Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Aknfenwa said the 1, 000-strong member Standing Committee to be led by the Anglican Communion Primate, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, would deliberate and pray on how to find the much-needed solution to the nation’s problem.

Commenting on the coming National Conference, Akinfenwa declared that “it is in the right direction and would give the possible solutions to the myriads of problems confronting Nigeria as a nation.”
