Onyekwere to Buhari: Adopt ICAD models to manage change

A management consultant with the Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD), Dr.
Godswill Onyekwere, has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari with using the Institute’s leadership models to eff ectively handle the change mantra of his government.
Dr Onyekwere, while delivering a lecture on ICAD 2018 strategy forum entitled: “The Imperatives of Strategic Leadership in the Growth and Development of Modern Organisations” in Abuja at the weekend, said Buhari should apply seven core principles of governance if he could succeed in making the difference in Nigeria.
He said the president should; “build strategic alliances, create and manage change, set his vision and goals right, solve governance problems creatively, promote empowerment, employ his executive presence, and adopt systems-thinking model, which rests on the notion that the ‘whole is greater than the parts’ and rely on seeing patterns rather than static snapshots.
” According to Onyekwere, “Nigeria needs leaders who can move and adapt to new challenges, build strategic partnerships, build and sustain capital organisations, and have the courage to act and react to the challenges.
” The international motivational speaker and human capacity builder said the onus rests on the president to assign roles and responsibilities to his aides on the basis of competence and not on pillars of sentiment and nepotistic interests.
He said the president should use his body language and visual image in addressing some of the challenges confronting the country, including armed banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and other social vices.
Several prominent Nigerians across careers and professions got ICAD Fellowship awards, including South South Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Rachael Bassey Akpabio, Chairman, Niger state Board of Internal Revenue, Jibrin Yusuf Habib, and Registrar, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Mrs Victoria Kolo among others
