Operation Last Hold: Army inaugurates 49 operational vehicles

The Nigerian Army has inaugurated additional 49 combat and armoured personnel vehicles aimed at enhancing Operation Last Hold in Northern Borno state. The army recently launched Operational Last Hold to further degrade Boko Haram terrorists and quickly restore the economy of Northern Borno state.
The operation began May 1, and will end August 31, 2018. Inaugurating the vehicles at the Headquarters of 133 Special Forces Battalion, Azare, Bauchi state, Chief of Army Staff , Lt.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the operation would ensure quick return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Northern Borno to their ancestral homes to continue with their farming activities and other businesses. He said more vehicles would be launched into the theater to aid the operation.
The army chief expressed appreciation to the people of Azare for their continued support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to curb insurgency in the North-east. “Whatever the military is doing is for the safety, security and development of North-east and the country as a whole,” he said. Earlier, in his remarks, the Emir of Katagun, Alhaji Baba Umar Farouk, who was represented by the Sarkin Yaki Katagun, thanked the army for keeping his domain and the entire North-east safe.
He assured the army of his continues support in other to totally eliminate insurgency and fully restore peace in the Northeast. Commander of Operation Last Hold, Maj.-Gen. Abba Dikko, said the army’s “focus on Northern Borno is due to the region’s economic potential in the area of agricultural production.”
