Ophthalmologist commends Kaduna Eye Centre over equipment

A Kano based ophthalmologist, Malam Ishaku Liman has commended the Chief Medical Director of the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, Dr.
Mahmud Alhassan on the inroads made on eye treatment, saying the feat deserved recommendation.
Liman gave the commendation during an interview with newsmen in Kaduna, saying he witnessed a lot of changes when he visited the eye center, and in particular the procurement of Alcon Posterior Vitrectomy machine and accessories worth N68 million and the completion of 50 bed relation transit camp, which he described “not a day job and quite commendable.” He said the purchase of an optical machine to ease the difficulty of the centre was made possible by the relationship of the CMD with relevant authorities, adding that with the relevant international aid, local collaborators, the job were achieved on time.
He averred that, in recent years when he visited the eye centre, there was virtually nothing to write home about in terms of developmental projects, stressing that the structures of the centre were dilapidated and crying for attention.
“But God so kind, with the inception of the present administration under the leadership of Dr.
Mahmud Alhassan as the Chief Medical Director, many things have been put in place which are now speaking volumes such as the manpower development training as one of the key mandate of the centre, training programmes in the centre, residency training, community eye courses, primary eye care training etc.” Malam Ishaku therefore urged that continuous replacement of obsolete equipment should be given priority as it would enhance the performance and service delivery of the medical centre
