Organisation donates medical equipment worth N400m to Yobe state

The Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), as part of its intervention in the north east has donated medical equipment worth N400 million to Yobe State government.
Presenting the equipment yesterday in Damaturu, Yobe State, the vice chairman, PCNI, Mr Tijjani Tumsa, said the committee’s intervention is to fill identified gaps, adding that medical outreach in the state are part of quick intervention schemes to help the state achieve secondary healthcare facility optimisation.
Tumsa said the the equipment aside the two containers earlier given to the state, is worth N400 million.
He said: “The PCNI mandate is to coordinate all the interventions in the north east, and where they are not, the PCNI try to fill in the gaps.
“We have companies that are in town engaging in the reconstruction, particularly with the structures in Kuchigo local government area that has to do with civil governance.
“Now the PCNI on it own part sees to the fact that everything is implemented according to Buhari’s plan, which is the strategic implementation of fireworks to the recovery of the north east.
“They all cost approximately N400 million. The implementation framework is very broad, we are crossing from the humanitarian to the developmental and recovery aspect of the interventions.”
He further added that the medical equipments provided range from blood banks, x-ray machines, hospital beds, furniture for patients and staff, autoclaving machines among others.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa, commended the Committee on it supports for the state and promised that the state will make good use of the equipment.
He said: “I have the authority to receive the donation of this medical equipment from the presidential committee for the North East Initiative, which is aimed at helping Yobe to expand it’s healthcare delivery further. Because the restoration of the healthcare service delivery is one of the critical ways of restoring the displaced people.
“As much as Yobe state has been doing it best, certainly we cannot do it alone, so the support of PCNI has come in handy. I have the mandate to assure the chairman of PCNI that all the equipment donated to us will be deploy for the benefits of our people.”
In thesame vain, PCNI also provided free medical care to 25,000 people free of charge in the north east within the first quarter of this year.
The head, strategic communication and media, Mr Alkazim Abdukadir, stated this yesterday at a workshop on new media themed: “Utilising New Media for Humanitarian and Developmental Reportage,” in Damaturu, Yobe state.
“This is April 2018, and between January and now, we have targeted about 25,000 people to treat free of charge in the Northeast.
“We have gone round in Borno State, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi state in providing people with free medical personnel; either people that have problems with their eyes, people that need dental care, surgeries, people that just need general diagnosis. We are going round providing them with free medical cares.”
