Ortom lifts ban on use of motorcycle in Benue communities

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, Monday, directed the lifting of ban on motorcycles in the Sankera axis of the state.

The state government had placed a ban on use of motorcycles in Sankera area comprising Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo local government areas due to activities of criminals and bandits in the area.

The ban later included the use of Toyota Corolla popularly known in the state as “Duck Nyash.”

However, a statement issued Monday by the chief press secetary, Nathaniel Ikyur, quoted the governor as saying “the lifting of the ban takes immediate effect.”

He said the directive was in consonance with the judgment of the High Court of Justice, Gboko, which set aside the order of the Benue state Security Council that banned the use of motorcycles in the Sankera axis of the state as a way of curtailing the rise of crime in the area.

He said as a government that believes in the rule of law and due process, his administration was bound to revert its action.
