Ortom to Lalong: Mind your business

Makurdi

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue has asked Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong to mind his business and not interfer with the affairs of his state.
Ortom, who made this known during a meeting with stakeholders with the federal government committee on the herdsmen, farmers’ crises yesterday at the People’s House, Makurdi, said at no time did his Plateau state counterpart, Simon Lalong warn him about the enactment and implementation of the anti open grazing law.
Lalong had some weeks back, while reacting to killings in Benue, said he had warned Ortom against promulgating the law prohibiting open grazing.
But Ortom, while speaking at the stakeholders meeting, said Benue was not the same as Plateau and therefore Lalong should mind his business.
The governor thanked the committee, led by the Ebonyi state governor,
David Umahi, who were on fact finding mission to some states in a bid to find sustainable resolutions to the farmers, Fulani pastoralists’ crises in Nigeria.
He particularly appreciated the committee for choosing Benue as their first point of call and expressed optimism that the visit would afford the opportunity of seeing things for themselves to know whether he was masterminding the crisis as being speculated in some quarters.
His words: “We chose the path of peace in a civilized way to tackle the crisis even when Fulani herdsmen are killing our people like chickens.
“We remain committed to this course in ensuring that we live in peace.
We must not accept the total deceit that is going on in the country.
“The anti-open grazing law started smoothly until Miyetti Allah issued a threat which was actually carried out by them. Therefore, l want to urge the committee to work assiduously to bring justice to Benue,” he said.
