Italian top flight league Serie A could be suspended for two weeks after a surge in coronavirus cases with Super Eagles striker, Victor Oshimen been a major doubt for the double header international friendlies against Tunisia and Algeria scheduled for Austria.
Genoa alone have announced 14 positive tests among players and staff.That means Napoli, who beat Genoa 6-0 last weekend, will have to self-isolate until they have returned negative tests with Oshimen who plies his trade for the Napoli side going for isolation for 14 days effectively ruling him out of the international friendlies.
Napoli are set to take on champions Juventus side on Sunday while Genoa are scheduled to play Torino on Saturday.
The Italian government and ministry of sport are working together to decide how best to combat any clusters of the virus in Serie A.But another outbreak along the same lines of this one could lead to football being brought to a halt.
Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera claim a suspension by chiefs is one of the options under consideration.
An international break kicks in next week so an immediate two-week stop of matches would disrupt fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

“As for Cape Verde, they have players of Portuguese and Brazilian origin, and they can beat any team. Central African Republic are an unknown quantity for us, which makes it more difficult.
“I think the group is tough, but we believe in our capabilities. Given that we qualified from the group of death for Russia 2018, we’re confident we can make it this time as well.”
The Super Eagles have failed to make it beyond the second round stage in all of their outings at the mundial.Rohr hopes he can create history by leading the three-time African champions to the quarter-finals.
“We’ll take it one step at a time. First we need to qualify, and if we do that, we’ll look at our group at the finals,” he added.“We’ll try to progress to the knockout stage, which we got very close to two years ago. We have to work hard to achieve that.”(Completesports.com)
