Oshiomhole: APC gov candidate urges caution

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9 election in Akwa Ibom state, Obong Nsima Ekere, has called for caution over the call for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

He, in an interview, said it was too early to ask for the resignation of national chairman who just won presidential election.

Ekere said the situation should be managed properly, just as he urged the media not to sensationalise the party’s crisis.

Also, defending Oshiomhole, the APC national vice-chairman, South-south, Hilliard Eta, dismissed the letter by the party’s deputy national chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuiabu, calling for Oshiomhole’s resignation.

According to Eta, the deputy national chairman cannot exonerate himself from the decision collectively taken by the National Working Committee of the party.

He said, “That call is not right, if we took decisions as National Working Committee and the consequences of these decisions are such that he is not comfortable with again.

“The best thing for him is to first of all resign before you can call on others to resign. You cannot remain a member of NWC and still call your colleague to resign for a decision all of us did collectively.

Meanwhile, the South-south APC state chairmen have passed a vote of confidence on Oshiomhole.

In statement signed by the six South-south states’ party chairmen in Abuja, they said, “Following the debates generated by the deputy national chairman, North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu’s call on the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to resign, the South-south state chairmen of the party have risen in defence of the party’s national chairman faulting the public outburst of a senior party official who ought to be well acquainted with the provisions of the party’s constitution regarding how to channel perceived grievances if any exist.”
