Oshoala grabs brace as Barcelona lift Spanish Super Cup

Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala grabbed a brace as Barcelona women thrashed Real Sociedad women 10-1 to lift the first-ever Spanish women Super Cup on Sunday.

In a match played at the Salamanca on Sunday afternoon, Oshola scored twice while right-back Marta Torrejon struck four times, Alexia Putellas also scored two goals.

Caroline Graham Hansen and Candela Andujar were also on target for Barca. Manuela Lareo scored La Real’s consolation goal.

Sociedad coach Gonzalo Arconada claimed the margin of the victory was not good for the game.

“Every team [in Spain] feels that we cannot compete with this Barca side,” he said in his post-match news conference.

“The [Royal Spanish Football] Federation will have to evaluate if this is what they wanted. It was always going to be a Barca win and we are the team that has suffered this humiliation.”

Barca coach Lluis Cortes, however, hit back at Gonzalo.

“Each club invests in women’s football as much as they want to and the percentage in relation to the men’s game is very small.

“I wish we could always win 10-1, but I am sure this won’t happen in La Liga. Things went really well today but in the majority of games we really have to fight.”

Cortes’ side will now focus their efforts on winning the league for the first time since 2015.

They have a nine-point lead over nearest rivals Atletico with 12 games to play.
