Osinbajo, Aregbesola inspect Owerri Police station, Correctional facilities

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and Minister for Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola were in Owerri, the Imo state capital Tuesday, where they inspected the facilities of the Imo State Police Command and the Owerri Correctional Service believed to have been damaged by the operatives of the Eastern Security Network(ESN).

Osinbajo who spoke briefly to newsmen, described the action of the gunmen as cowardly and an attack on the people and promised that security would be beefed up at all the Correctional Centres in the country to forestall future occurrences.

Earlier before the Vice President’s arrival, the minister, Rauf Aregbesola had described the perpetrators as criminals, adding that he received the news of the coordinated attacks in Owerri with sadness.

He further described the incident as the worst on Police and Correctional  facilities in the history of the country and said that it was a declaration of war against the Nigerian state to stop them from defending the people.

While assuring that security would be beefed up in all Correctional Centres in the country, he assured that inmates who voluntary returned to the centre would be given amnesty while those who were still on the run would be looked for. He therefore, enjoined community leaders and Royal fathers to assist in looking for them as it was dangerous to allow them live around.
