Osun 2018: Christians must succeed Aregbesola – Gov aspirant

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Elder Peter Babalola, yesterday began his political activities to become Governor of the state with inter-religious prayer in his hometown, Ikire. Babalola, who is the Chairman Local Government Service Commission, said Osun West Senatorial District must produce the next Governor and the person must be Christian.

According to Babalola, the denominational prayer was necessary because no success can be achieved without God’s blessings and he intends to be the tool in the hands of God for that purpose come the September 22 governorship election.

He said the seven and half years of Rauf Aregbesola’s administration stressing that it has performed better than past administrations, since the creation of Osun state. Recalling the reason why he left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babalola said the party was unfair to him when they denied him the governorship ticket because he is a Christian. He said “in 2007, I bought 69 vehicles and branded it to campaign for Olagunsoye Oyinlola but I was paid wiThevil. When it was my turn to become Governor, they said I am a Christian, and they denied me the ticket.

As God will have it, Aregbesola came and won”. He expressed optimism that there would be level playing ground in the APC, boasting that “Osun West would produce Governor and I will be the person.

The prayer was attended by representatives of Christian and Muslim leaders in all the local councils in the state. Traditional rulers in all the local councils also attended the prayer with political associates and friends of Babalola. Chief Imam, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr. Adekunle Abdulhameed, in his sermon, said people will not follow any political party that refused to be just, fair and fail to keep to its rules. The Deputy Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend John Adeniyi, prayed for the victory of Babalola and advised political parties to eschew violence during the electioneering
