Osun Assembly suspends Oshogbo LCDA chairman, others

The Osun State House of Assembly has suspended the leadership of the Osogbo South Local Council Development Area.

The development came Monday as a result of the controversies surrounding the impeachment and reinstatement of the Chairman of the LCDA, Abdulhakeem Olaoye.

Four parliamentarians of the council area had last week impeached the chairman. But the impeachment was reversed by the House of Assembly last Friday.

However, the House in a unanimous decision on Monday decided to suspend the council parliamentarians, including the Chairman.

The Assembly referred the case to its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The impeachment of the chairman by the lawmakers had sparked outrage, forcing the security operatives in the state to put all necessary mechanisms in place to forestall a likely breakdown of law and order.

The four parliamentarians did not show up at the House of Assembly when they were invited last Friday. Only the chairman honoured the invitation.

The house charged the council manager in Osogbo South LCDA to take over the leadership of the local council pending the determination of the matter before the house within seven days effective from today 30th of December 2019.

In another development the house of assembly received another notification of impeachment of Olorunda local government chairman, Hon Anisu from the parliamentarians and referred it to the house of assembly committee on local government affairs.

The speaker state of Osun house of assembly Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye advised all the council parliamentarians to always follow due process in their dealings and allow peace to reign in their respective local government areas.

He said peace and progress of the state was the main purpose of which the new local councils were created warning that the house of Assembly will not hesitate to take decisive action against any erring local government parliamentarian(s) in the state.
