Osun bricklayer bags 2-yr- jail for possession of indomie, stew

A 28-year-old man, Olowookere Ojo, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun state capital for unlawful possession and stealing.

Ojo was arraigned Thursday on a 10-count charge bordering on stealing and unlawful possession of items.

The convict, who claimed to be a bricklayer, admitted guilty to the four charges and pleaded not guilty on the other six charges against him. 

The police prosecutor, Mr Olayiwola Rasaq, said the convict committed the crime on July 24, 2019 at Akede Iyaloja area, Osogbo. 

The offence, according to the police, contravened section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II, law of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.

The prosecutor said the police conducted a search on the convict’s house thrice and were able to recover 36 stolen materials

Among the materials recovered in the convict’s house are: a pot of stew with two cooking spoon, one pack of indomie, two bed sheets, 8 pieces of baby outfit, and a lady purse containing 3 gold chains.

Others are: 2 earrings and 1 pendant, raw rice and beans, one standing fan(which the convict claimed ownership of), 3kg gas cylinder (which the convict claimed ownership of), house cooler, five(5) litres of vegetable oil, 1 shovel, 2 speakers and home theatre.

Also recovered as listed in the charge sheet are: one hammer, empty sack, 10 golden penny spaghetti which he claimed to have stolen from his brother’s wife, 1 plasma TV, 1 IPhone X, one Iphone 4, 1 essence phone, one Gionee phone and pliers.

The convict, who had no legal representation, pleaded with the court to have mercy on him, wondering what led him into stealing.

Subsequently, the Magistrate, Mrs. Aishat Oloyade, sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each of the four charges without option of fine.
