Osun court remands seven robbery suspects in prison

The Chief Magistrate, Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Monday, remanded seven people who were suspected to be armed robbers in prison custody.
The accused persons are: Olorunnisomo Gbenga (21), Dada Ayomide (20), Yisa Mufutau (23), Adeoti Saheed (22), Rasheed Suleman (20), Kehinde Olanrewaju (27), and Badmus Kayode (21).
The Prosecutor, Mr. Mustapha Tajudeen, told the court that the accused persons committed the alleged offence on December 31, 2017 at about 02:30p.m in Osogbo Magisterial District.
He alleged that the accused conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
The accused were said to have allegedly robbed one Azeez Waheed, Giwa Olalade, Adedeji Ridwan and Fagbemi Isaac of their properties.
He said “the culprits burgled and carted away a Blackberry phone, Android phone, Power bank, Itel phone and ATM cards with cash sum of N25,000 among other items.
The accused persons were also alleged to have armed themselves with guns, cutlasses and some other weapons, which were against the law.
An English made revolver 8-round pistol was allegedly recovered from Yisa, one of the accused persons.
The prosecution said the purported crime contravened section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) and 6(b) and punishable under section 1(1) of the robbery and firearms (special provision) Act Cap R11 vol.14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
They were arrested by the Special Anti- Cultism Squad from State CID during a gun battle.
The plea of the accused persons were not taken by the court due to the magnitude of the alleged offence.
Magistrate Fatimoh Sodamade, however, ordered the accused persons to be remanded in Ilesha prison custody and adjourned the matter till March 28, 2018 for mention at the higher court
