Osun govt begins arrest of residents for failure to wear face mask

Osun state government has ordered arrest of residents that refused to use facemask and other violators of the safety measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Special Adviser to governor Gboyega Oyetola on Security, Mrs Abiodun Ige, led the Joint Task Force to effect arrest of the offenders.

The arrest, which began on Tuesday, continued on Wednesday as vehicles were prevented from passing the traffic at the popular Olaiya junction, Osogbo, until they undergo proper check and violators dropped from commercial mini bus or motorcycle.

The violators, it was learnt, were then taken to a Primary School hall, where they were enlightened by officials of the Ministry of Health on COVID-19.

They were also delayed for some hours to watch videos relating to the dangers of not adhering to the safety protocols rolled out by the government.

The state government had blamed lack of strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines for the main reasons for the rise in the number of cases in the state.

The arrest, according to the government, will continue until people of the state adhere strictly to the COVID-19 measures.
