The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has urged staff of the Commission, particularly, the trainers responsible for training election duty staff to sustain the successes recorded in the the Ekiti governorship election by replicating the same in the July 16 Osun state governorship election. The commission noted that the optimal performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS)  during the election is a testament of the quality training the election duty staff received.
National Commissioner and Chairman Board of the Electoral Institute, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, gave the charge, during  the opening of the Training Of Trainers (ToT) workshop for the 16th July, 2022 Osun state Governorship, held on Tuesday at the Electoral Institute (TEI), Abuja.

Prof Zuru noted that the smooth conduct of the election “is a testimony to the credible performance of the election officials in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities during the elections. This in turn reflects the success of the ToT for the Ekiti 2022 elections.”

“The chairman INEC and indeed the Commission thank the Resource persons and Trainers for the feat and also noted that the bar has been raised high in Ekiti and has to be raised higher in Osun governorship election as we prepare for the 2023 General Elections.”, he added.

The national commissioner also urged the participants to listen attentively to the trainers in order to deliver effectively on their mandate.

He said “as officers in the forefront of the Commission’s engagement with ad-hoc personnel and stakeholders, I charge you to listen attentively to the trainers as this training will no doubt sharpen your diverse competences in the task of cascading this training to the would-be election personnel at the State and Local Government levels”.
He continued; “I am hopeful that the participation will be robust, and the eventual outcome of this workshop will not only benefit and enhance the Commission’s effectiveness and efficiency in the electoral processes, but ultimately help INEC to deliver free, fair, credible, inclusive, and acceptable Osun state governorship election on 16th July 2022”.

The Director General of The Electoral Institute (TEI),  Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris,  in his welcome address stated that the institute was well prepared and ready to deliver quality training on election day activities for adhoc staff in preparation for the Osun state governorship election.

Dr. Sa’ad emphasised the need for trainers and coordinators to use the opportunity of the ToT to hone their skills especially on the use of the BVAS for accreditation of voters as quality and effective delivery of the trainings is fundamental to the success of the Osun governorship and the 2023 general elections.
