Osun lawyers in N1m land racketeering

An Osun State medical practitioner, Dr. Adeyemi Gbadebo, has raised alarm over threat to his life by a lawyer, Barrister M. A. Laogun and his son, Barrister A. A. Laogun, after defrauding him of one million naira.
Dr. Adeyemi, in a petition written by a human rights lawyer, Mr. Alfred Adegoke, alleged that Laogun and his son sold a land for him on behalf of one Dr. Charles Oluokun.
A copy of the petition written to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, was made available to newsmen in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, on Tuesday.
The petition was copied to Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, Nigeria Bar Association, Abuja and Osogbo, National Human Right Commission, and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission.
The petition reads in part: “Barrister M. A. Laogun and his son, Barrister A. A. Laogun tricked our client that they are solicitors to Dr. Charles Oluokun based in the United States over his property at Temidire Estate, Osogbo.
“After our client confirmed that the copy of C of O given to him by the Barristers correlates with the records at the Ministry of Land, he paid N600,000 to M. A. Laogun’s Union Bank account and the balance of N400,000 was paid to A. A. Laogun in cash.
“Our client was embarrassed when some land grabbers came to disturb him upon which he reported to the Barristers who gave him a petition purportedly written on his behalf unknown to our client that they are working together with the land grabbers with whom he re-purchased the land for N900,000.
According to the petition, Dr. Adeyemi, tried to locate the owner of the land who later disclaimed the Barristers that he did not send them to sell his land.
However, while the land grabbers apologised and have been paying the N900,000, the Barristers have refused to pay the N1million but rather threatening to deal with Gbadebo and his family if he didn’t keep quiet on the matter.
A letter of disclaimer, written by Oluokun and made available to news men, said “I have never engaged the services of M. A. Laogun & Co of Okefia, Osogbo, as my Solicitors/Attorneys on above mentioned land and also iterate that all documents concerning the said land from M. A. Laogun & Co. are fake and without my knowledge.
