Osun State Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has elected officials to pilot the affairs of the chapel for the next three for three years.
A statement by the Secretary, Lateef Dada, said that Niyi Ajibola, the Correspondent of Daily Post, emerged as Chairman of the chapel.
Ajibola polled 18 votes to defeat his co-contestant, Hameed Oyegbade of the Daily Trust, who polled 10 votes.
Also, Lateef Dada of the Blueprint Newspapers scored 19 to emerge as Secretary while his opponent, Yinka Salam of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, scored 9 votes.
In his speech, Ajibola promised to redeem the image of the chapel and strive to ensure unity of members.
“I appreciate the confidence repose in me. This exercise has given us opportunity to move forward in unity. We would work together to restore hope and integrity of the chapel. I promise to be a servant leader and uphold high professional standard.
The state Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji, commended members of the Correspondents’ Chapel for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during the process.
He promised that the state council will continue to support the chapel, saying “it is time all of us must come together as a formidable organization to redefine our operation and style.
The Zonal Secretary, Comrade Bamigbola Gbolagunte, called on members to unite and continue to be a good example to politicians.
“You have shown to the partisan politician that NUJ can serve as good example. Let us unite together. Do not be the Chairman of a section of the Correspondents’ Chapel. Try to carry all members along and give them the opportunity to contribute to the progress and development of the chapel.
Mr. Jide Idowu of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, returned unopposed as treasurer, Ayobami Agboola of Oodua as Assistant Secretary and Mrs Yetunde Oladejo of Western Post as the financial Secretary.
The Chairman of the credential committee, Michael Olanrewaju, said that supplementary would be conducted for the post of Vice Chairman and Auditor.
