Officials of Osun Waste Management Agency (OWMA) Tuesday arrested 40 residents of Osogbo, Osun state capital, including a police officer, for allegedly dumping refuse indiscriminately on major roads.

General Manager,OWMA, Mr Femi Ogunbamiwo had threatened legal action against indiscriminate disposal of wastes on major roads and river channels in the state.

Speaking with our correspondent in Osogbo, Ogunbamiwo said the agency would soon be going out with its mobile court to prosecute offenders of indiscriminate waste disposal.

“By the regulation establishing the agency, we are expected to ensure that our environment is kept clean at all times devoid of hazards that are likely to cause health problems,” he said.

He noted that penalty awaited anybody that went against the environmental law, stating: “We have the enforcement unit of the agencies that goes around to monitor activities on the roads.

“The agency is made up of seasoned environmental health officers and they are legal officers. The government had made available for us, mobile courts for prosecution”.

He advised people of the state to patronise the accredited waste disposal, explaining that the approved agencies had been going from home to home to collect wastes at affordable price.
