Osun polls: Take bribe, lose your job, Police tell officers

The Nigeria Police has warned its officers to refrain fraternizing with politicians or collecting bribe in the coming governorship election in Osun state.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Public Complaint /Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), Mr.
Abayomi Shogunle, gave the warning yesterday in Osogbo, Osun state capital when he visited the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) after a sensitization tour to ensure free and credible election in the state.
He said any police officer caught with any unprofessional conduct before, during and after the election would be punished.
According to Shogunle, about 10 police officers have been dismissed based on complaint in the last two years of the establishment of PCRRU.
He also disclosed that N11.1 million has been recovered and returned to the victim by the unit after investigation.
Shogunle said the PCRRU team was in Osun to meet different stakeholders and also sensitise police against unprofessional conduct before, during and after the election.
“There is going to be a severe punishment for any police officer that is found guilty of any unprofessional conduct.
We are here to ensure free and credible election.
The Nigeria Police Force is not supporting any candidate.
Our role is to ensure level playing ground for all the candidates.” He also warned politicians to abstain from inducing voters in the September 22 governorship election, saying the intelligence unit of the police has perfected plan to arrest any politician caught distributing money during voting.
