Osun students kick against incessant rape, suggest death penalty for culprits

National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), Thursday, suggested death penalty for rapist as panacea to curb the incessant case of rape in the country.

The students during a protest on WalkAgainstRape held in Osogbo, Osun state, maintained that capital punishment must be attached to rape if it would end in Nigeria.

Addressing new men during the protest, the NAOSS president, Com. Salahudeen Ayowale, said the government needs to protect students from harassment by ensuring that some culprits are made scape goats to serve as deferent to others.

He said the incessant case of rape must be approach drastically to prevent further re-occurrence of such.

“At NAOSS, we recognize the responsibility of the police and other security agencies to uphold law and order, and appreciate their efforts against rape and other forms of violence but we wish to charge them by saying their efforts is not enough.

“The union wishes to strongly recommend to the government to announce capital punish (death) as the wage of rape, this will serve as deterrent and a serve-it-well yard stick for the perpetrators who are undoubtedly nothing but animals.

“As Osun state students, it is vital that our schools and home be safe spaces for us to learn and love without fear of harassment or abuse of our fundamental human rights.

“It is for this reason that NAOSS is taking this giant step today. This campaign focuses on the significance of saying no to rape and other forms of violence, and the fact that rapist are animals.

“Consent is a very powerful thing, but we need to know how it works so that we all can use it to feel safe and happy. Because rape perpetrators have failed to realize that its 5 minutes pleasure for them and life time injury for their victims.”
