Our troops ‘ll remain ruthless against bandits – Buratai

To continue the onslaught and sustain successes so far recorded against bandits in the North-west, troops must continue to be ruthless and decisive in their operations.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, gave the charge while addressing troops deployed at the 1 Division Super Camp Kurelo in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Army Chief said the concept of Super Camp was developed to provide troops with maximum comfort and in order to operate more effectively. 

“It is like any other deployment. This time around instead of having them discentralised we now have more centralised forces where they should project as far as possible,” he said.

“This is one of the principles of war, which also provides more security for the troops.

“The Super Camp concept is working very well in the North east. The concept  has been quite wonderful. In the past two and three weeks we have not seen any major attack in the North east and even here in North west apart from isolated remote areas.  So far we are happy with the result we are getting both in the North east and here.”

He also said the camp would ensure that the successes recorded in fight again banditry in the North east is sustained. 

Buratai also said the location of the Super Camp in Birnin Gwari general area was strategic since its boarders Niger, Zamfara and Katsina, which had been experiencing activities of bandists and kidnappers in recent times, adding that the successes recorded in operation Harbin Kunama III was due to coordinated operations by troops and other security agencies in Zamfara, Katskna and Kaduna States.

“These successes has  confirmed tactical defeat of the bandits, ” the army chief said. 

“You must continue in this manner untill they don’t have the means to raise their heads again and we consolidate on our successes.”

The army chief also charged the troops to remain focused and followed the bandits into their hideouts, as they (troops) are better trained and equipped that the adversary.

“They have killed and wounded our colleagues, you must not allow them to back and attack you,” he said.

“You are working within the confines of the rules of engagement. You must be ruthless again anybody  that carry arms against the country. You must developed intelligence capability to penetrate the adversary area, and be ready to cross work into areas that may not be within you area of responsibility as situation warrants.”

Lt. Gen, Buratai assured the troops that the army would continue to ensure that their welfare both in operations and in the home front is adequately taken care of.
