The National Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday said 113 suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported in 12 council areas in nine states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NCDC said on its website that 13 of the cases were confirmed, with two deaths recorded.
The states affected are Edo (72), Ondo (18), Ebonyi (five), Bauchi (11), Nasarawa (one), Plateau (one), the FCT (two), Adamawa (one) Benue (one) and Ogun (one).
The agency said the National Lassa Fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Technical Working Group would continue to coordinate response activities at all levels, while a Rapid Response Team had already been deployed in Benue State.
It added that the centre, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment and World Health Organisation, had conducted Lassa Fever National Environmental Response in Edo and Ondo states.
The NCDC said apart from Lassa fever 23 suspected cases of cholera were also reported from five councils in Abia, Adamawa and Borno states, with 10 laboratory confirmed cases. The centre said that no death had been reported from the disease.
The centre said, “There has been an increase in the number of acute watery diarrhoea cases reported in Borno State from week 40.
The national cholera multi-sectoral Technical Working Group is monitoring all states and supporting already affected states.
“The Lagos State epidemiology team is investigating suspected outbreak with deployment of Rapid Response Team to the affected council areas.”
The NCDC said there were 378 suspected cases of measles in 137 council areas in 31 states and the FCT.
