Over 10,000 CSOs plan rally against Emefiele to storm EFCC, ICPC, DSS, CCB, Immigration

Over 10,000 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the auspices of Coalition of Civil Society Group (CCSGs) disclosed embarking on an anti-Emefiele rally calling on the sack of Godwin Emefiele as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over alleged corrupt practices and high level of incompetence.

The President of Civil Society Groups, Etuk Bassey Williams, made this known in a statement signed by himself, and Williams explained that the over 10,000 CSOs under the Coalition are set for the rally and they will hold the rally simultaneously across the country to press for the sack of Emefiele.

According to him, the time is due for Emefiele to be sacked over his failure to salvage the economy.

He said: “Nigerians cannot be taken for ride anymore and we as a people who understand his many administrative flaws cannot allow such person to drive Nigeria’s monetary policies. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been a man who presents himself a saint and make people believe he is working hard to transform the economy but it is a far cry.

“Emefiele has done more harm than good to the Nigerian economy, under him the economy has sunk down despite his unproductive policies that are not impacting Nigerians positively.

“Under him, the Naira has nosedived and seriously depreciated, therefore stifling the business ventures while some have left the shores of the country and other fold up.

“The economy had it so bad under Emefiele, the unemployment rate is so high that he cannot proffer solutions, hence the high level of ‘japa’ of young Nigerians. Under his two terms in office thousands of Nigerians have departed the shores of Nigeria to Canada, America, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Sudan, Egypt, Italy, China, Russia, and other countries legally and illegally for survival and settlement.

“The crimie rate has also increased because the Emefiele leadership has not been able to come up with youth based policies that would keep young people from leaving the country or indulge in all forms of criminality including ritual killing.

“The Naira redesign introduced by Emefiele brought untold hardship on Nigerians, which many lives were lost, many businesses collapsed, investors couldn’t come in, inflation became worse, and the Naira went flat, and there was no human feelings despite appeals from Nigerians to suspend the policy until he was sued by some governors at the Supreme Court, eventually the Naira redesign policy has been an abysmal failure.

“Unnecessarily, Emefiele spent money and money of taxpayers on a failed policy that didn’t add any socio-economic impact on Nigerians but excruciating pains.”

“The corruption at the CBN has been monumental but seriously covered up. There are evidences to prove these corrupt practices under the watch of Emefiele.”

“There are so many flaws in his personality and the way he approaches issues but we as a Coalition across the six geopolitical zones, we are going to hold this mother of all rallies across the 36 States of the federation and 774 local government areas and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for the world to know who Emefiele is and the monumental corruption that has taken place under his watch for two tenures.

“This rally will expose whatever he has been doing damage control over these years. We will surprise the world about him, and we will ensure his arrest and prosecution.”

Meanwhile, he (Williams) also disclosed that the Civil Society Groups will storm the National office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, Department of State Security, DSS, Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, and embassies to let their demands known.

He also alleged that, “A source has reliably informed us that Emefiele is seriously lobbying the Tinubu’s camp so as to evade arrest and prosecution but he rather pray for a soft landing which is to honorably resign from office.

“But we will ensure Emefiele is arrested and prosecuted, there will be no soft landing because justice must prevail in the interest of Nigerians.”
