Owerri residents beg Ihedioha on road rehabilitation

Residents of Owerri, the Imo state capital have continued to groan over the state of roads in the town and its environs.

The roads, especially the ones constructed or rehabilitated by the immediate past government, appeared solid before the rains set in but have continued to wear off due to poor jobs done by the contractors, thus giving the residents nightmare.

Our correspondent gathered that almost all the roads in the town have one problem or the other but the most affected are World Bank road, Fedponek-FUTO -Ihiagwa road, Bank road, Chukwuma Nwoha road, MCC-Uratta road, Amakoha-Akwakuma road, Amakohia Flyover-Onitsha road, Orji Flyover-Spibat road, Amakohia- Umuonyeali road among others.

Apart from these roads, almost all the federal roads linking Imo with other states are begging for attention. Such roads are the Owerri-Okigwe-Enugu road, which has two bad spots before Orie Akabo market and Ekemelee area, which has defied palliative measures over the years; Owerri-Port Harcourt road and the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road.

Residents; Emeka Nkwoala, a building materials trader, Agnes Nwokorie, who deals in agricultural materials  and Agu Paschal, a lorry driver, who pass through these roads on a daily basis, have pleaded with Governor Emeka Ihedioha to adopt palliative measures to reclaim the roads and make them passable once again.

“It is not certain whether he will give listening ear to our pleas, especially as he has continuously advised Imolites to exercise patience until the rains subside  for government to go into full scale rehabilitation of roads in the state,” Nwokorie said.
