Oyo govt committed to zero tuition fees policy – SUBEB chair

The chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, on Friday declared that the state government was committed to its zero tuition/fees policy.

Adeniran, who stated this when he received in audiences the members of National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) at the Oyo SUBEB board’s headquarters in Ibadan, adding that “the present administration in the state plans to leave the basic education sector better than it met it.”

“To achieve this, there is the need for the NAPTAN and other stakeholders in the education sector to team up with the Oyo state government in improving teaching and learning at the basic education level in the state.

“Under no circumstance should a pupil or parent be mandated to contribute any amount in and across Oyo state. The present administration in the state has many plans for its primary schools hence the need for the collaboration of other major stakeholders, particularly NAPTAN,” he said.

He said further that the NAPTAN being an integral part of the transformation process in the basic education sector of Oyo state indicated that their influence would amplify government’s policies and programmes in the basic education sector to its members.

According to him, “We also have plans to digitise teaching and learning in our schools and as the number of pupils’ population increases, we solicit the support of interest groups like NAPTAN.”

Also speaking, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Oyawale Isaac Adebayo, said the body “is ready to collaborate with the Oyo state Universal Basic Education Board, in ensuring maximum security is obtained in primary schools across the state.”
