Oyo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) yesterday disowned “the purported” factional election of the Correspondents’ Chapel in the state.
The Council in a release jointly issued by its vice-chairman, Prince Segun Adeyemo, and Secretary Comrade Rotimi Babalola, said the purported election was stage-managed “by a faction in the chapel thereby rendering it illegal, null, void and of no effect.”
The statement said: “Oyo state council of NUJ frowned at the unwholesome conduct of some members of the correspondents’ chapel under its control for holding an illegal and the so-called election of its officers which was purportedly held on April 7, 2014.The purported election was stage-managed by a faction. It was illegal, null void and of no effect.”
It, while maintaining that the annulled factional election “runs afoul of the laid-down procedures as enshrined in the NUJ Constitution,” urged “members of the public, government agencies, security agencies and other notable organizations not to fraternize with the so-called correspondent’s chapel executive.”
“The Oyo State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) wishes to reiterate that the only recognized executive of the Correspondents’ Chapel is that of Mr. Bisi Oladele-led executives.”
