Oyo police raise the alarm over misuse of firearms by miscreants

The Oyo state police command has alerted of the alarming rate of fire arms in the hands of miscreants and some residents in the state without licence or authorization.

The command, while raising the alarm in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Lawrence Fadeyi, asked those in possession of firearms to, without wasting time, surrender them to the nearest police station.

The command emphasised that, as at present, unscrupulous elements in the state were using firearms to mastermind inter-gang clashes towards looting and other social vices with the unlawful possession of fire arms.

“In the interest of the state and the peace of all and sundry, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu wishes to urge the good people of Oyo State not to hesitate to assist the Police in bringing such elements to book vis-a-vis the sharing of timely, concise and accurate information about any unauthorised person(s) or group of persons found in possession of fire arms,” the statement said.

The command urged all hands to be on deck towards the education of youth and wards alike in the various spheres of influence, advising them to shun such acts gradually turning the state in the opposite direction of peace and progress.
