P/Harcourt prince, Lawrence Chukwu, escapes assassination attempt

Son to the late Eze Ekenta Jackson Chukwu of Ogbakiri, River state, Mr. Lawrence Chukwu, has reportedly escaped assassination attempt on his life at Gudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

A family source, who craved anonymity, told this reporter that the gunmen traced Lawrence Chukwu to his abode in Gudu area of Abuja over the weekend where they attempted on his life, explaining that providence however made him to escape through the backdoor while the assailants left him after close to one hour of searching.

The source said this would be the second attempt at Lawrence’s life, following a similar attempt on him three months after his traditional marriage ceremony in June 2020 in Port Harcourt, River state.

It was gathered that Mr. Chukwu had an unresolved case with some individuals in his native community, Ogbakiri, where the paramount ruler’s stool is in dispute after the gruesome death of his father, the paramount ruler of the community, in 2001.

Lawrence Chukwu, it was learnt, is claiming the stool because his father who is of Okporowo clan, has the right of ascension to the throne but others are challenging the claim, a case which brought the community into crisis that took many lives between 2001 and 2002.

Another claim, which could not be ascertained, is Lawrence’s allegedly link to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to a family member, “Lawrence Chukwu’s whereabouts and that of his wife is still unknown following the recent incident,” adding: “That remains the most worrisome part of the problem at the moment.”
