Palm Sunday: 3,000 Christians participate in procession in Kwara

At least 3,000 Christians from over 20 denominations yesterday participated in a procession  to commemorate Palm Sunday in llorin, the Kwara state capital, which symbolises triumphant entry of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem.

The Palm Sunday also marked the beginning of Passion Week, the proclamation of His kingdom and a fulfillment of the Prophesy.
The procession that had women and children carrying palm leaves went to several streets in the state capital defying the scorching sun.
Led by several Church leaders, the procession sang various Christian songs and danced through major streets which signified victory over sin, death and the world.

The procession which lasted more than four hours took off from Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo Oke, passed through Maraba, Amilegbe, Opo Malu, Taiwo, Unity road, all in the state capital.
Law enforcement agents were on hand to ensure maintenance of law and order, while traffic control Officers had hectic time controlling traffic to ensure free flow of vehicular and human movements during the period of the procession.

Speaking with journalists, the chairman, Kwara state chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Prof. Timothy Opoola, called on Christians to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ which included humility, honesty, faithfulness and transparency.

Chairman, Planning Committee for the Palm Sunday, Rev. Emmanuel Alonge, commended Christians for participating actively in the procession and urged them to move closer to God.
