Heavy rainfall Wednesday wrecked havoc on most parts of Osogbo, the Osun state capital, destroying electricity poles, house roofs, among others.
The torrential rain, accompanied by windstorm, brought down some high-tension pole wires, thus, cutting some areas off electricity supply.
Some residents of the ancient city have since been left in darkness, occasioned by the destruction by the rainfall.
The affected areas visited by Blueprint correspondent are, Oke-Baale, Gbonmi, Isale-Osun, Kelebe, Ofatedo, Igbona, Oke-Onitea, among others.
The rain, which started around 7pm, did not stop until after two hours. Though, there was no casualty recorded, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the rainstorm.
Electricity poles that fell around Kajola street, Balogun, Oke-baale areas of the town, have prevented vehicular movement.
The rain has deserted many residents who have been struggling to find friends and families to accommodate them.
The head of Kajola community, whose house was also affected by the rainstorm, Chief Tiamiyu Ibraheem, said it was a terrible experience for the residents of the area.
According to the community leader, no cases of casualty were recorded.
He said he has lost properties that worth a million naira to the rainstorm.
He said they have called electricity company to come and remove the poles that fell down during the heavy down pour.
No fewer than 40 houses, including a church, were affected as roofs of some of the houses were completely removed by the wind at Kelebe area.
One of the affected church, Chris Apostolic Church, Oke-Ase was completely destroyed.
The roof of the newly constructed church was uprooted by the rainstorm before it was later smashed on a building belonging to the Grand Imam of Ansarudeen, Alhaji Yunus Sanusi Imogbemi.
Speaking, Pastor Oshunsina Abel, the owner of the church and Imam Imogbemi, called on the state government and other stakeholders to swing into action and help victims of the rainfall.
The General Manager, Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), TP Oluyemi Olanipekun Olanrewaju, said the agency has directed the affected people to come forward to make official complaint for necessary action.
He assured them of government intervention within a short period of time, urging residents to always check the conditions of their roofs so as to avert future reoccurrence.
He however lamented lack of funding to make provision for intervention in anticipation of such natural disaster.
