Panic buying: DPR storms filling stations in Ogun

Following reported fuel queue resurfacing in some major cities, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) yesterday stormed filling stations in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The monitoring, it was learnt, was to douse tension over reported queues resurface and forestall panic buying of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.
The DPR officials led by Operations Controller, Abeokuta Field Office, Muinat Bello-Zagi, were armed with Seraphin Can which was used to measure compliance with regulations on fuel sales at various filling stations visited yesterday.
Some of the stations visited were, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Oke-Mosan, Jularsem Petroleum, Abiola-way, and Budgatee, Idi-Aba.
Our correspondent observed that there were no fuel queues in all the filling stations visited in the state capital.
Speaking with reporters, Bello-Zagi explained that the inspection was part of DPR routine check to “ensure that the consumers are not shortchanged in terms of quality, quantity and also the safety standard.”
According to her, DPR monitoring is a continuous process whether there is queue or no queue.
The DPR boss noted that all filling stations were “actually over-dispensing” as against under-dispensing which attracts sanctions for the outlet found culpable.
She said: “The filling stations we visited, most of them are actually following the laid down rules in terms of quality and quantity. All the ones we visited fall within the tolerable limit in terms of quantity.
“As I am talking to you this is not the only team in Abeokuta. We have some other teams in some other areas. So, it is continuous process whether there is queue or no queue. It is our responsibility.
