Panic withdrawal in Osun ahead lock down

Residents of Osun state, Monday, defied social distance prescribed for gathering to prevent the spread of the deadly Corona virus, as they stormed banks to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machines (ATM).

Some banks in Osogbo, visited by our Correspondent were full with queue of customers waiting in turn to cash money.

It was observed that numbers of those entering banking hall were minimal as securities were struggling to control crowds of ATM users.
The state government had announced total lock down starting from Tuesday, as inter-state transport were banned Sunday.

Though, it was observed that the inter-state transport ban was not effective, as transport union still load passengers going to another states.

Speaking with our Correspondent on the queue in one of the banks, Hon Musbau Ibrahim, described the queue as normal.

He said, “It is normal. Nigerians like last rush. Because of the total lock down, everybody want to have some little money either to purchase goods or to have it at hand because hunger virus is very serious than Corona virus.

He commended the security saying “they have been trying by making sure there is orderly. He advised people to obey the principle saying, “everybody should stay at home because health is better than millions of naira.

Also, one Akinwale Akinboyowa, called on the government to look for alternative means to contain the spread of Corona virus. He said the hunger in the next two weeks may be worse than COVID-19.

“Those that are deciding total lock down should come out at this time and see how rowdy every place are. There is also the need to look other way round if there is any alternative to stop the spread of the COVID-19.

“It is when you have money in your account that you go to queue in bank, I know some people that are living on daily earn that they can not eat if they don’t go out, what is going to happen to those ones? I’m afraid it won’t be hunger that will kill people in the next two weeks if Corona virus is not killing us.

“The government should send his officials out and see what is happening in town. You can see that the social distance is not working. If they prevent crowd in the banking hall, and there is no distance outside here, what is the essence!

He said, “There is need for people who have seen the symptoms to stay on isolation and this is the right time for the government to help people.
