Pantami harps on more cybersecurity awareness

Cybersecurity awareness has become imperative due to the attendant risks that emanate from digital transactions across the globe.

This was stated in a keynote address by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami at the 2020 International Legislative – Stakeholder Conference on Digital Technology and Cybersecurity held at NAF Conference Centre Abuja, Monday. 

The Minister said redesignation of the Ministry was in line global best practice that has positioned Nigeria to align with the Fourth Industrial Revolution towards building a knowledge based economy. 

“Our plan is to move all parts of the economy to digital platform.  The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which has accelerated the transition to a more digitally enabled lifestyles and ways of working has brought about a ‘new normal’ globally with new opportunities and possibilities being unlocked by digitalisation.

To make this possible, we need a secured cyberspace and an informed digital aware citizenry.”

He said, “The importance of cybersecurity is emphasized in Pillar #6 (Soft Infrastructure) of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) for a Digital Nigeria. The Soft Infrastructure pillar aims to ensure that Nigerians are secure online.”

He added that, section 106(1(c)) of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 states the role of the Nigerian Communications Commission in the protection of consumer information.
