Partner other agencies to implement non custodial measures — CGC directs field officers

The Acting Controller General of Nigerian Correctional service, John Mrabure, has urged , staff of the Non Custodial Directorate to ensure high level partnership with other concerned agencies in order to effectively implement the non custodial measures and ensure a peaceful and safe nation

A Statement by the Service Public Relations Officer Chukwuedo Humphrey Thursday, the Controller General who was represented by the Deputy Controller General of Corrections in charge of Non Custodial Directorate, Tunde Ladipo gave this advise today at a 1-day stakeholders consultative workshop on Effective Implementation of non custodial measures in the FCT at the complex of the National Human Rights Commission, Maitama, Abuja.

The workshop, which was organised by Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) aims at enlightening all stakeholders in the criminal Justice sector and the society in general on the need to partner and be supportive of each other.

Mr Ladipo further encouraged all participants to stop seeing themselves as rivals but as a family with the same agenda

The workshop was attended by heads of all stakeholders of the Criminal Justice System, NDLEA, FRSC, National Human Rights Commission, Traditional Leaders,the Religious Leaders,and NOA among many other agencies.

 The executive director of PRAWA, Dr. Uju Agomoh, further explained that in as much as the President Muhammadu Buhari has empowered the Nigerian Correctional Service to be in charge of non custodial measures, all hands should be on deck to ensure its success hence all stakeholders should be approached and their strengths effectively utilised. 

This sensitization of stakeholders would be carried out in all the states of the Federation and the FCT to ensure compliance.
