Party deregistration: FCT IPAC commends judiciary for restraining INEC

The state secretary, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and FCT chairman of National Conscience Party (NCP), Abe Fisayo Makanjuola, has commended the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja restraining the Independence Electoral Commission (INEC) from deregistering 31 political parties.

Fisayo Makanjuola said  members were excited that the court sitting in Abuja ordered INEC, led by its national chairman, Mamhood Yakubu, to stop carrying out the de-registration of 31 political parties that went to court over the matter.

Makanjuola, who advised all political parties to join hands and work together in fighting the illegality carried out by INEC till the end of the case, stated that this is the third time INEC has attempted to review the deregistration of political parties in the country.

He added that the parties had won the battle twice because NCP and other political parties came together to stop INEC from carrying out the exercise.

He said despite several court summons served, INEC still refused to honour the order, saying he believed it was a contempt of court.

“We are calling on INEC to respect the rule of law and maintain the  status quo on the political parties,” he stressed.
