Passengers’ welfare: ARWPAN moves to provide identification card for Nigerians

The Association of Rights and Welfare of Passengers in Nigeria (ARWPAN) said it will provide identification card for all passengers in the country to solve the problems associated with non-identification of victims of accidents who are alive or dead.


The organisation also revealed that it will carry out biometric survey of the state of all roads across the country bringing to fore the statistics and actual locations of portholes on the roads that leads to accident and encourages social evils such as arrmed robbery and kidnaping.


Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the critical principal officers of organisation Friday in Abuja, its board chairman, Engr. Tina Onojeghohuo Echero, said ARWPAN as an organisation will add value to all organisations that have concern on the transportation system by featuring on the protection of the rights, welfare and interest of the passengers.


“The organisation will provide identification card for all passengers.  This will cure ills associated with challenges of non-identification of victims of accidents who are alive or dead.  


“The organisation will carry out biometric survey of the state of our roads across the country bringing to fore the statistics and actual locations of port holes on our roads that leads to accident and encourages social evils such as arrmed robbery and kidnaping.”


Echero, who is a marine Engineer with a Master degree in Transportation Engineering, said: “critical to transportation engineering are the need for planning, design and maintenance of transportation facility.  


“The whole process has its bearing on interest rate, gross domestic product, consumer price index, government fiscal and monetary policies.  The implication is that we have to fashion out a business model for accurate forecast for the future condition of the transportation system in the country which has to be handled by third party privacy.


“Whatever model we develop must take into account the human interest factor.  Without human beings who are the passengers, there is no transportation.  The welfare of passengers becomes a major phenomenon.  


“Nigeria is a big country blessed with a huge population that can be conservatively put at 150 million people.  the population of Nigeria is an asset that can impact positively on the consumer price index to the lowest denomination currency in the country.  The utilization of the lowest currency will have its mulplier effect on the GDP and inflation.”


The organiser of the meeting which had in attendance representatives from across the states was meant to give an update on what has been done so far to kick start the operation of the organisation.
