Patients commend free eye treatment initiative in Jigawa

The Birniwa community in Jigawa has commended the state government for the free eye treatment of 113 people in the area.
Alhaji Musa Muhammad, spokesman of the community, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birniwa that the gesture had saved the beneficiaries from blindness.

Muhammad said that the gesture would enhance eye care services at the grassroots.
“We commend the government because the exercise has improved the health status of our people,’’ he said.
Aliyu Kirilla, one of the beneficiaries, said he was cured of cataract disease under the free eye treatment initiative.

“I have had this eye problem for many years, this affected my sight. The treatment helped to restore my sight,’’ Kirilla said.
Also commenting, Mallam Abdulrahaman, the Programme Manager, said the free eye treatment was provided in collaboration between the Jigawa Government and Abdullahi Foundation, an NGO.
He explained that 113 people were treated for cataract, glaucoma, while some others with impaired vision were also treated. (NAN)
