PAWA set to empower 108 female African writers

The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) is set to empower two female writers from 54 African countries.

In a statement, PAWA’s Secretary General, Wale Okediran, PAWA would collaborate with Women’s Organisation of Resources, Knowledge and Skills (WORKS) and LONGRICH to undertake the pilot scheme of the project in all its 54 member countries in Africa.

The aim of the project, Okediran said, is to empower two female writers in each PAWA member country free of charge for the eventual take-off of their respective entrepreneurship careers which can supplement their writing careers.

Okediran noted that presidents of national writers associations under PAWA had been asked to nominate two female friters from their respective organisations who are interested in the project not later than September 15, 2020.

According to Okediran, any writer eventually  selected would be invited for a Zoom meeting to flag-off the pilot project.

He added that modalities were in the works for the expansion of the project in the future, so as more female writers would be accommodated.

PAWA was founded in November 1989 in Ghana, to engender Pan-Africanism  in arts and culture.
