Pay fuel subsidy directly to filling stations, ADP tells Buhari

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the subsidy regime on petroleum, urging that government should pay directly to filling stations to eliminate middle men.

The opposition party also urged tge National Assembly to provide necessary law ti ensure that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conduct Local Government elections across the country.

Speaking during the sixteen National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the party, Wednesday in Abuja, its National Chairman, Engr Sani Yabaji said insecurity is the core problem the country is facing, adding that Nigerians should prevail on the president to review the security architecture of Nigeria bu quickly appoint new set of Security Chiefs.

He also called on the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefele not to dabble into politics but focus on its core responsibilities.

“The time has come for the Buhari government to revisit the subsidy regime. We know that the subsidy is giving is fraudulently managed and therefore Nigerians are not getting value for money. Although we will ask the president to totally remove the subsidy from petroleum product that is consumed locally why because of its implications.

“In terms of inflation, sicio-economic to Nigerians, what we are asking the government to do is to look at the regulatory agencies because we know that in the oil and gas sector there is a defect in the governance.

“We believe if meters are installed for instance, at our inlets jetties, you can effectively account for what comes in as product for subsidy to be paid on. We know as a matter of fact, that most of the Jetties in this nation today does not have working meters, so what subsidy should be paid on? What government is paying subsidy on today is fake data.

“What we are asking President Buhari to do is to pay subsidy at the pump, that is at the petrol stations to eliminate middle men. The filling station owners should be the one submitting datas from their sales, so that government will not be paying middle men but will be paying for actual consumption by Nigerians.

On INEC, the national chairman canversed that tbe current leadership should be left intact but ensure that its put pressure on the president to sign the ammended electoral bill into law.
