Pay ground rent or forfeit property, Ebonyi government warns land owners

Ebonyi state government Friday warned every land owner who are yet to pay their ground rent from the year 2000 to do so or risk revocation of the land.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, disclosed this to journalists while briefing them on the outcome of exco meeting of July 1, 2022.

Orji said the land owners have 30 days from same July 1st to pay while late payment will attract 20percent penalty.

He said, “Exco considered a memo seeking to as a matter of urgency embark on aggressive revenue collection of the ground rents from all land owners in the state who have not been complying with the law from the date of issuance of their C of O.

“Exco approved same and directed that from the year 2000, all those who have not paid their ground rent must pay it within 30 days from 1st July, 2022. Late payment shall attract 20% penalty while failure to pay shall result to the revocation of the C of O of the land and same shall be gazetted and published”.

Orji further disclosed the setting up of 7-man committee headed by the Deputy Governor Barrister Kelechi Igwe to look into a proposed agreement on the management of the state shopping mall.
