PDM chairman urges Police to investigate alleged forgery, impersonation

The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) national chairman, Mr Frank Igwebuike, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, to immediately investigate alleged forgery and impersonation of him by some party officials.

Igwebuike, in a petition filed at the Nigerian Police Force headquarters in Abuja, said the quick intervention by the police would remedy the already bad image presented by the party officials before the public.

In the petition, Igwebuike alleged that all the party documents used in fielding Pastor Aminchi Habu, the national financial secretary of the party as the PDM presidential candidate were not original.

Pastor Habu is the National Financial Secretary of the party, while Mr Abubakar Gwada is the National Secretary.

“All the party documents used in the process of fielding Pastor Habu as the PDM presidential candidate and filling the petition before the presidential tribunal are not original.

“As the original correspondents submitted to INEC were in my custody and did not release them to anybody including the national secretary.’’

Igwebuike had alleged that some of documents submitted before the Presidential election petition tribunal by the duo were forged.

According to him, this prompted the withdrawal of the petition by the duo before election tribunal.

“I and leaders of the party in an attempt to protect the good image and integrity of the party asked the national secretary and the national financial secretary to withdraw their petition.

“As the party at no time approved the filling of petition, the party never authorised the national secretary and national financial secretary to file the petition because there was no resolution of the party to that effect,” he said.

He alleged that the duo without the consent of national chairman and national treasurer of the party collected N5 million being the sum of expression of interest and nomination form for presidential candidate of the party.

Igwebuike said sum was never paid into the party account number domicile with the United Bank for Africa by Habu but provided fake receipt to that effect.

He said the national secretary acted alone in collaboration with the financial secretary for their personal interest and aggrandisement by using photocopies of the party’s documents in their possession to file petition before the tribunal.

He said that these actions were taken without the consent of the chairman and the national working committee.

Igwebuike called on the police to treat the petition with the urgency it deserved to save the party from public ridicule.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had on July 24 dismissed the PDM petition following an application by his counsel, Aliyu Lemu to withdraw it.

The withdrawal came on the day the party was to open the case. (NAN)
