PDP aspirant assures on meeting yearnings of Kogites


An aspirant on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Aminu Abubakar Suleiman has assured the state of vibrant economic and human development leadership that will meet the yearnings and aspiration of the people.

The aspirant, who is warming up for the November 16th governorship election in Kogi state, urged the electorates to give him the mandate to lead a rescue team.

He promised to pursue with vigour the provision of qualitative technical education that will make the youths be the employers of labour, adding that he will offer free medicare to pregnant, children aged mothers.

The aspirant gave the assurance Tuesday in Lokoja during a media parley organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi state council for aspirants vying for the governorship position in the state.

Suleiman, a chartered quantity Surveyor, decried the governance in the state alleging that it has foisted hunger and depravity on the people and promised to reverse the trend with people-oriented policies and programmes that will better their lives, if given the mandate to govern.

He added that the land and water resources, which are in abundance in the state, will be developed using the latest technology to unlock agricultural potentials and make farming attractive to youths.

While assuring that he will establish farm metropolis across the state, the aspirant said irrigation would be pursued to ensure all season farming, saying research and development will also be employed to study suitable soil for respective crops in the 21 local government areas of the state.

He promised to develop the confluence of rivers of Niger and Benue states to boost tourism using public private partnerships model as a vehicle to attract direct foreign investment.

Suleiman bemoaned the poor condition of service of civil servants in the state adding irregular payment of salary and promised to make workers’ welfare and security of the people his top most priority, if given the mandate to serve.

“The state right now lacks welfare for workers and the security of the people is constantly at risk. The state is not working. Kogi today is poorly governed. We will reverse the trend for our people to take ownership of their affairs.

“Payment of salaries and pensions are key to my administration. We will be paying salaries and pensions as at when due while we will gradually defray the backlog of arrears owed workers and pensioners. 

“It is a pity that our best brains in the state university have been unjustly sacked. We will not allow that to continue. We will make basic education free so that our indigent pupils can realise their dreams. 

“We will strengthen Korean Friendship Institute in Lokoja to train and retrain our people in the area of skill acquisition and will support them to stand on their own”, he assured.
