PDP chair zoning: Northern youths kick

Concerned northern youth forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday descended heavily on their elders for daring to issue what they called “a fallacious” communiqué, which did not represent the resolutions of a meeting held in the early hours of Thursday to streamline the contest of power at the November 9 convention.

The forum, led by former House of Representatives member, Hon Sani Kutigi, flanked by his colleagues, kicked against the move at a briefing yesterday, saying that there was no such deliberation as to support only chairmanship aspirants from the South West as they were present at the meeting.
Northern Leaders and Elders Forum’s communiqué was signed by Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Former Minister of Education and Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, former Speaker, Benue state House of Assembly.

The communiqué claimed that “it was resolved that, in the spirit of fairness, equity, carrying every part of the country along, giving every geo-political zone a sense of participation and inclusion in the affairs of the PDP, we strongly support the quest of the Southwest geo-political zone to produce the next national chairman of the party.

But the PDP Concerned Northern Youth’s statement read: “Various groups and contending interests are jostling for vantage positions ahead of the National Convention of the People‘s Democratic Party coming up on 9 Dec. 2017.

“The latest most obnoxious and objectionable plot is by some party members from the North who have purportedly micro-zoned the national chairmanship of the party to the Southwest in a bid to accord undue advantage to a preferred aspirant”.
