Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has apologized to the people of the North east and members/supporters of the party for lack of prompt action against the Boko Haram insurgency by the PDP-led federal government.
Chief Dokpesi, who is one of the aspirants for the position of National Chairman of the PDP, apologised during campaign tour of the North east, adding that the slow action eventually led to the escalation of insurgency in the region.
He said he was in the Borno and Yobe states to plead with the people over the regrettable lapse and urged delegates of the party to rally round him at the December 9th elective congress, scheduled for Abuja.
He said having served the party at different levels and made sacrifices for the party and as a patriotic Nigerian and founding member of the PDP, he deems it fit to assume the national chairmanship of the great party.
“It gives me the opportunity to also interact first with the people, have first hand information on what they exactly want, what their wishes are and what they expect from the PDP federal government.
“It gives me the opportunity to tender reserved apologies to the people of the North east, especially, Borno and Yobe states for the lack of immediate action or promptness by the PDP federal government when this Boko Haram insurgency started.
“Although, I have try to explain also that it takes time for armament to be procured or collected and the opposition capitalized on the quiet nature or quietness of the president at that time to depict him as being insensitive to the issues and problems of the people of the north east.
“Whereas he had their love and love the people of this area and the PDP love the people of the North east. The armament acquired and being used today by the military were acquired by the PDP-led federal government but used today as a propaganda against the PDP by the APC federal government”, Dokpesi said.
“Although, PDP did not plan properly by then but all equipments being used by the APC federal government today were purchased by the PDP federal government but APC federal government is trying to say that PDP federal government had no concern for the people of the northeast
“We must protect each other and be our brothers’ keepers. The PDP wants to come out and challenge the APC in Borno state. I want the PDP members to preach the gospel that poverty has reached its peak and the PDP wants it to stop. PDP needs a change and wants to rehabilitate the people in 2019 and rebuild the north east”, Raymond said.
He appealed the delegates from Borno and Yobe states to vote for him and urged them to reject those that might want to lure with money.
Earlier speaking, the Director General of the Chief Dokpesi Campaign Organization, Comrade Mohammed Buba Kachallah, said as an industrialist he decided to join the race to contribute to the development and progress of the party and carry the party to greater heights but not to enrich himself.
