PDP govs elect Dickson as chairman, calls for state of emergency on security


The Peoples Democratic Party, Governors Forum (PDPGF) has elected the governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson as chairman and immediately called for state of emergency on security.
PDPGF election took place at the Gombe governor’s lodge Asokoro, Abuja, Wednesday.


Addressing journalists at the end of the election, the former Chairman of the forum and governor of Gombe, Ibrahim Dankwambo said: “The most important thing that we have done today too is to elect the new chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum in the person of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, who will be running the affairs of our forum.


“I appeal to our members to be good party men and leaders as they were elected by our people. We have also touched and discussed issues of security and we are going to conclude in the General Governors Forum.
The communique issued at the end of the three-hour meeting reads: “PDPGF is very concerned about the state of insecurity and how it affects food security as farmers are scared to go to their farms for fear of being killed or kidnapped and urges the President to declare a state of emergency on security matters. 


“Following a consensus agreement, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has been elected Chairman of the PDPGF to succeed Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo whose tenure expires by the end of the month”.

Governors present at the meeting were Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom, Samuel  Otorm of Benue, Ibrahim Dankwambo-Gombe, Aminu Tambuwal- Sokoto, Seriake Dickson- Bayelsa, Emeka Ihedioha – Imo state governor-elect.
Also, Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of representatives, Yakubu Dogara;  the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; and PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the last general election, Peter Obi also joined the governors at the meeting.
