Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the Supreme Court judgements which affirmed the election of Governors Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi of Rivers and Ebonyi states, respectively.
The party in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Olawepo, said “the landmark rulings of the apex court have not only rekindled hope in democracy but also pungently underscore the strategic importance of an impartial judiciary for the survival of democracy in our country.”

The statement read in part: “Indeed, the PDP commends the maturity, responsiveness and patriotism displayed by the Supreme Court in arriving at its rulings, which have resounded among the people not only for being in consonant with their wishes and aspiration as expressed at the elections, but also for reviving their already dwindling confidence in the democratic process and the Nigerian project.

“Furthermore, the rulings have affirmed not only the popularity of the two governors but also that of the PDP in the two states and other states of the south south and south-east geo-political zones, and of course in most states across the country where it still maintain very strong grassroots support and structures, the turnout of events in the 2015 general elections notwithstanding.

“We note that despite the temporary setback of the 2015 presidential elections, the PDP remains the only party with genuine national interest and capacity to deliver a stable and united country with clear-cut economic direction, which Nigerians earnestly crave at this point in time, and for which we are rebuilding to regain power at the center in 2019 in spite of our challenges and continued persecution of our leaders.”

Continuing, it said: “On this note, we charge all our governors, legislators as well as all other PDP elected and appointed office holders at all levels across the country to redouble their efforts in providing purposeful leadership with innovations for wealth creation in the face of daunting economic challenges in line with the ideology and visions of PDP founding fathers.
“This is especially as others whose political platforms offer no ideological base and clear-cut direction for governance are now resorting to blame games and defeatism, which serves no purpose or offer any hope for the people.”
