PDP lambasts APC for ‘trivialising’ national issues

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as “engaging in frivolous and unnecessary grandstanding over critical issues” affecting the welfare of the people and the future of the nation.
It cited specifically the refusal of the APC to participate in the national conference, despite the over a decade-long campaign by its leaders for national dialogue.

This was contained in a communiqué of the national retreat for PDP Zonal and Publicity Secretaries held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The communiqué signed by its chairman, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, and its secretary, Nwachukwu Ngige, respectively, commended President Goodluck Jonathan, “who despite unwarranted attacks and distractions from the opposition, has remained focused in his commitment to transform Nigeria.”

It further lauded the President’s steadfastness to bringing a lasting solution to the lingering insurgency in parts of the country, as well as his determination for a strong, united and peaceful Nigeria through the on-going national conference.

According to the communiqué, the Bayelsa state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, commended the publicity arm of the party for “stoutly defending and improving the image of the party despite serial distortion and deliberate misinformation by the opposition.”
The communiqué, however, recommended that the publicity secretaries be integrated into the cardinal organs of the party, adding that all publicity secretaries at different levels be empowered and properly positioned for effective discharge of their responsibilities.
