Ondo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through a release signed by the director of media and publicity, Zadok Akintoye, Tuesday, dissociated itself from a statement credited to former South-west PDP publicity secretary, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, calling on Ondo deputy governor to resign his position.
Akintoye said “the party wishes to inform the general public that the position expressed by Mr. Fadaka does not represent the opinion of the PDP in Ondo state.”
He stated that Ajayi remains the deputy governor of the state and he is not under any moral or legal compulsion to resign his position.
The party urged the general public to disregard the statement as it does not reflect the position of the party.
In a similar development, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ondo state,Bolaji Salami to restore the security details of the deputy governor with immediate effect.
This is sequel to the failure of the state government to secure the two-third majority to impeach Agboola as the deputy governor.
The IGP’s directive was contained in a memo addressed to the CP through the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The memo with Ref. No CB: 2002/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL/77/168 was signed on behalf of the IGP through Austine Agbonlahor, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The security details attached to Ajayi and his office were withdrawn on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in the state last week Wednesday.
The deputy governor who accused the CP of working on the instructions of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to withdraw the officers had for a while been having a running battle with his boss.
Ajayi had engaged in a confrontation with the Commissioner of Police at the Government House, following alleged refusal of the latter to allow the deputy governor to exit the premises, allegedly on the orders of the governor.
